Why choose a Doula?
Having a baby is one of the biggest things you'll ever do, physically, emotionally, and mentally. It’s exciting, overwhelming, joyful, intense, and full of unknowns. And while you might have a brilliant midwife, a supportive partner, or well-meaning friends and family, nothing quite compares to having Doula support!
A Doula is solely there there for you and your birth partner. Not just for the birth, but for your whole journey, before, during, and after. A Doula is someone who can help you make sense of information, understands what matters to you and only you, and helps you feel calm, confident, and supported in a way that makes a real difference.
Here’s why hiring a Doula (and me specifically!) is one of the best decisions you can make for your birth and postpartum experience:
Better Birth Outcomes!
Firstly though it’s so important to know that research shows that having a Doula can lead to shorter labours, fewer interventions, and a more positive birth experience overall. A 2017 Cochrane Review found that continuous support in labour (which is what we Doulas do best) increases the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth, reduces the use of pain relief and interventions like forceps or caesarean births, and leads to better overall satisfaction with the experience.
A person in your birth team
Pregnancy is full of questions, birth is unpredictable, and postpartum can feel like a blur. I can provide steady, evidence-based guidance through it all. Whether it’s answering your “Is this normal?” questions, helping you advocate for your choices in birth, or making sure you’re actually fed, rested, and supported in those early newborn days, I bring the kind of tailored, personal support that can make everything feel more manageable.
Partner Support
My role as a Doula isn’t just for the birthing person I also help partners feel more prepared, involved, and confident in their role. I see all the time that partners want to be supportive but don’t always know how, especially when things get intense. Having a Doula present doesn’t replace them, but instead helps guide, reassure, and take the pressure off a bit, so they can be fully present without feeling out of their depth, and can also really help support their mental wellbeing, which is so important!
Caring for you postpartum
The reality of newborn life is that it’s exhausting, emotional, and full of changes that it is really hard to prepare for, especially in first births. My postpartum support can step in when your visitors leave, when the adrenaline starts to fade and when you’re navigating this new life with your baby. I can help with feeding, recovery, newborn care, emotional support, and most importantly making sure you’re cared for, nurtures and celebrated.
One of the things I love most about being a Doula is that there’s no right way to give birth or parent, just your way, and I am here to help you figure out what that looks like. Whether you want a home birth, an epidural, or a planned caesarean birth, I support your choices, with zero judgment.
