Why I Doula…

Am I the right Doula for you?

We’ll be a good fit if you love good food, coffee, big hugs, appreciate honesty and are willing to let yourselves be looked after.

I live in Canterbury with my husband Dom & daughter Rosa.
I spend my time working as a Doula, teaching Antenatal Classes locally for Hey Baby Perinatal and running The Perinatal Academy, a training academy for Doulas and Antenatal Teachers, so I live and breath birth every day! I am in the Zest Midwives family, which means I am part of the Our Village Midwife Team in East Kent, supporting births alongside Frances, the founder and an incredible Independent Midwife.

When I am not working and being a mum, then you'll find me in Whitstable or at The Sun Deck in Margate with friends and fam.

We love Kent life 💛

Having a Birth Doula in East Kent to support you can have the most positive effect on your experience, from your pregnancy through to postpartum, those early days when you are navigating life with your newborn as you start or grow your family. There can be so many reasons why you might want Doula support, and I believe there is a Doula out there for everyone.

I think of myself as your birth companion who will walk alongside you for much longer than just your labour journey. I provide evidence-based antenatal education, a non-judgmental listening ear, and practical, physical, and emotional support during pregnancy, birth, and the newborn days.

We know that it is recommended that women and birthing people benefit massively from continuity of care and a constant companion at birth, which makes so much sense, doesn’t it? Whilst I am beyond grateful for the NHS, we can’t sugarcoat the current state of our maternity system, and a huge part of my role as a Birth Doula is to help you navigate your way through that.

I have been supporting parents in my role as an Antenatal Educator in East Kent since 2021, also offering 1-2-1 antenatal support throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I had been waiting until my daughter was old enough for me to be able to support families in this way, and the time is now. It’s an absolute calling, and I am so excited to be here.

I am non-judgmental, pro-choice, and very happy to support hospital births, home births, and birth centre births, as I do not believe Doulas are only needed at home. I birthed my daughter on a labour ward and would have loved a Doula by my side.

"Sam was my doula for the hospital birth of my baby. She provided me with much needed support before the birth, during labour, and then postpartum. She's knowledgable about the maternity system in East Kent because she's gone through it all herself. But most importantly, Sam's beautiful soul and empathy shine through as a doula. She made me feel validated and listened to when I came to her with all my worries. Post-partum, she patiently gave me the time to reflect on my labour experiences. I'll never forget Sam's role in the birth of my baby, and I can now count her as a friend, too"
